I already know I’m going to take heat for this one! To my Colombian besties, I love you but this was 1st and only trip to Colombia, so this is my honest experience based on where & when I visited.
I was lucky enough to go for one of my very best friend’s wedding. The highlight of my trip was hands down seeing 20 of my college friends, many who I hadn’t seen in years, reunited together in South America. You have to take a ride on their Colombian party buses, known as Chivas Rumberas!

We had some of the most delicious sushi and sashimi downtown for so cheap. Also, the sweet or savory crepes here. What would've been a $200-300 nice dinner in the states is only $100 in Colombia, for that I am grateful!
If you find yourself in Bogota, I highly recommend booking in advance for this one --> Storia D'Amore Piazza. The parmesan wheel they roll your pasta in....
WHAT I LOVED
So affordable
Hiking Monserrate. You can make the intense trek up the mountain or take the lift
Beautiful Countryside
Venue was stunning, tucked in the mountains
& WHAT I DIDN’T
Bogota (where I visited) was a bigger city. More crime, definitely had to watch for pickpocketers. Thank God for my Spanish-speaking friends who helped translate.
Crime / Corrupt Police
I stood out like a sore thumb & didn’t feel the safest
If you’re planning your next trip to Colombia, I recommend visiting Cartagena or Medellin instead of Bogota. I've heard they're both beautiful!
I went for one of my best friends’ weddings and the venue was tucked in the mountains, with stunning views. It’s a beautiful country that I think gets a bad rap…. Unless my friend is getting married again, I wouldn’t go back especially not without friends who were from there / knew the area well. Never say never, but personally I'm not planning a trip back to Bogota in the near future.
